1. Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up (John2:19-22).
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”
20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?”
21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body.
22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.
2. For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale‘s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth (Jonah 1:17; Matt 12:40, three full days).
Jonah’s Prayer
17 Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
3. Jesus: … … After three days I will come again from the dead …(Matt 16:21, 17:23, 20:19).
Jesus Predicts His Death
21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
23 They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.” And the disciples were filled with grief.
19 and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”
4. Jesus:…. the third day… (Luke 9:22, 18:33, 24:46)
Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day (Luke 24:46).
22 And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”
33 they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”
46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
5. Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? (John11:9).
9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this world’s light.
- The captain of their salvation (Heb2:10), which salvation clock is three days and three nights (72 hours).
10 In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.
